Serving Cape Cod
One of the many benefits of being a Rotarian is the opportunity to serve. The Rotary Club of Osterville gives to Cape Cod in the areas of community involvement, fundraising events, scholarship awards, annual contributions to organizations and more.
Community Involvement and Fundraising
Rotary is not merely a state of mind - it's also about action. Members of the Rotary Club of Osterville get involved in the community by offering assistance. From April to October many of our members participate regularly in a roadside cleanup in Centerville along Route 28. It's an opportunity for us to provide some community service and keep Centerville clean while joining in some fun fellowship. Look for Rotarians at work along Rte 28 starting our second season this April!
The Rotary Club of Osterville, along with the Hyannis Rotary Club, also sponsors a club at the Barnstable High School Interact Club in Hyannis. Our faculty advisor is Kate Sullivan and the club meets the first and third Tuesday of the month at 5:00pm room 1609 during the school year. What is Interact? Interact is a service organization for young people, ages 14-18 sponsored by a local Rotary club. Interactors develop and carry out a wide range of service projects from raising impressive sums of money for worthy causes to working directly with disabled children, the elderly, and others in the community who need help. Each Interact club carries out at least two service projects a year. One serves the school or community and the other furthers international understanding. Interact also assists their sponsoring Rotary club on various community service projects. Founded in 1962, Interact stands for International Action. The first club was established in Melbourne, Florida, but the movement quickly spread to many other parts of the world. Today it is a thriving organization with some 199,939 members in more than 8,693 clubs in 111 countries.
If you visit Dowse's Beach in Osterville, your may have seen our Rotary Food Van! This is our second largest annual fundraiser. Our van parks daily at Dowse Beach June 15th through September 5th selling soda, ice cream, hot dogs and pizza to the beach crowd.
Our largest fundraiser is our Annual Bluefish & Striper Tournament which includes a barbeque and live and silent auctions. All proceeds go into our club's Good Works Fund, which is then dispersed into our community's local organizations.
