The Osterville Rotary Club is pleased to have been joined by our State Senator Julian Cyr, where he spoke of his current term in office. Julian just finished the end of his first year in this position, after being elected in November, 2016 to succeed Senator Wolf.

He is a lifelong Truro resident, a Nauset High School graduate, and a graduate of New York University.  And he and his family were small business owners for many years – they owned Adrian’s Restaurant in North Truro, which closed in 2012.

He is Chair of the Joint Committee on Community Development and Small Business, Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Elder Affairs, Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts, and Cultural Development, and serves on committees with oversight of public health, housing, municipalities and regional government, environment and agriculture, and social welfare.

Julian has experience in public policy, health advocacy, organizing, and social justice. Prior to his election, he served in the Baker administration as director of policy and regulatory affairs for environmental health at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. And previously, under Governor Patrick, he worked closely with members of the Legislature as deputy director for government affairs at the Department of Public Health.

Over the past year Julian has been focusing on a number of issues – especially housing affordability, zoning reform, state support for wastewater needs on the Cape and Islands, preparing for the decommissioning of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, tackling the opioid epidemic and more.
